Well it seems that Fungus might have a high content of lipids than Algae. I am a full supporter of Algae-Bio-Fuels, but when I saw that fungus can work, I nearly Flipped! They sure are a fun-guy! Get it? Well jokes aside, this a serious project with serious benefits to consumers and mostly commercial fleet operators. If you look in my Algae articles, they are similar to how Fungus-Fuel would be produced.
Emeritus plant pathologist Gary Strobel, who 15 years ago discovered the fungus that contained the anticancer drug Taxol, found that this new discovery, called Gliocladium roseum, is capable of producing gases. Further testing of the fungus revealed a number of compounds normally associated with diesel fuel, which is obtained from crude oil. The initial observations of the fungus' output, which Prof. Strobel calls “myco-diesel” were published in this month's issue of Microbiology. The abstract can be read here.
This is a interesting development. Their is no silver bullet in this crisis and we can use whatever we can get. I hope one of these bio-fuels can develop. The real advantage is, we can use current fleet vehicles and just switch the fuel. The money saved from the required modifications and conversions of engines & infrastructure is enormous.
