Say no to Chicago Olympic bid!

Here is Martin expression his passion to stop the Olympics in Chicago.

I have to agree with Martin. This cannot happen especially in a State so ridden with corruption and debt. This has to stop once and for all.

Hey everyone!

This is Martin from Radio Arte. I met some of you at Power Shift and I
hope that -through the energy instilled in us from PS- we can build a
broad and inclusive coalition.

First, I am part of a group called No Games Chicago, a group of
concerned citizens against the bid for the 2016 games. We have MANY
reasons why the games would not benefit the city but chief among them
is the threat it poses to tax-payers and low-income families. We have
a rally against the 2016 Chicago Olympic Bid on APRIL 2nd at Federal
Plaza @5pm. You are all welcome to that rally as well as the MASSIVE
Bike rally the next day (same time & place). {{{..If we have a rally
it would have to be the week of April 6th]]]]

But I want to ask all of you: WILL there be an Environmental Action
during the International Olympic Committee (IOC) visit April 2nd-8th?
The build up for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada destroyed
miles of wildlife preserve and was responsible for a gigantic output
of carbon emissions. Moreover, the Olympic games has traditionally
required massive build up of infrastructure which required
displacement and gentrification (as we have seen in Chicago in recent
years). Plus, the city, and it's mayor, are parading themselves as
being green when we have some of the worst air, poorest transit
systems, we have two coal plants in low-income communities, and clean-
coal project supported by our Senator.

So...I think we -as environmentalists, conservationists ,etc- have a
lot to be wary of in terms of the Olympics. Plus, the "Grand Stadium"
would be built in Washington Park where its Bird Sanctuary would also
be threatened.

We will need a lot of help from EVERYONE to set this up. What do
people think about this?
We can also talk about this when we see each other at some of the
engagement we all know about, ie the Tar Sands Forum.
