The non-profit sector can feel the troubles of a turbulent economy.
This remains true for even for-profit business entities.
I would like to dispatch a message I received from an organizer:
Hey all,
Sorry you haven't heard a lot from me since Power Shift. The recession has hit all sectors of the economy pretty hard, including the not-for-profit sector. Due to budget shortfalls my position with Energy Justice Network no longer has funding and I am looking for a new full time job to support myself. This obviously means that in the short term I will not be able to play the role that I had hoped to play in the development of the youth climate movement in Illinois.
For the short term future (from now until this fall) I'm taking a break from organizing to rest and pursue personal projects my organizing work has brushed aside over the past six years.
I have faith in all of your energy and organizing capacity and hope that y'all are able to build the organizational infrastructure and democratic decision making processes necessary to build a powerful and sustainable grassroots network in Illinois.
