Natural Gas Up 65% - Heating Up 25-35% This Winter

Here is a break down of how Natural gas prices are calculated.

Market forces and Mother Nature continue to keep natural gas prices volatile. Prices spiked through the spring and into the summer months. As of July 23, the price of natural gas was up 26 percent from January 2, 2008 and up 65 percent from this time last year. Alliant Energy is currently anticipating natural gas costs for the upcoming winter heating season to be about 25 percent to 35 percent higher than last season, but the situation is still very volatile. For example, at the beginning of July our forecast was for a 50 percent to 60 percent rise in costs.
