This new plant, when operational, will feed 15 million cubic meters of biomethane into Germany’s national gas grid.
The issue with biomass gasification was the composition of the bio-gas product. It was literally contributing negative CO2 emission if consumed as utility. Previous methods made a product which was only 60% methane and 40% Carbon Dioxide. After refining the process many times over, this plant in Konnern, Germany can create a grade of biogas which is nearly identical to natural gas!
The process uses heat to speed up the decomposition and the excess it vented out and refined and stored in tanks. The plant is going to use 120,000 tonnes of raw material as fuel to produce biogas. Typically gasification is used with waste products. The waste from cattle & agriculture is traditionally used.
The whole process can be found here.
